Rangpur was one of the oldest Municipality in Bangladesh ,which was established in 1869.In the year of 1892 ,the municipal building was erected under the consideration of Raja Janaki Balav Sen."Syama sundori khal" was excavated for the emprovement of the town in 1890.The municipality is located in the nort west part of Bangladesh.The Rangpur Paurashava has turned into Rangpur city corporation .According to the Local Government (City Corporation) Law 2009,Government has declared it as Rangpur City Corporation vide SRO NO.247-LAW/2012 Date:28-06-2012.The present area with extention area is 203.19 sq.km & population is about 10 lac.In newly declared city corporation there are 33 wards.
